MEDICOM KUBRICKS

Released 2001 - Present

Boxed Death Star

Tomy Medicom released this unique range nearly 10 years ago. Since then they have become a favourite among collectors. Part of the appeal s their miniture size, coming in a little bigger than Lego figures, but with far more detail. Another factor is that these are rare outside of their native Japan. Picked up on Ebay from Japan or neighbouring Hong Kong.

The initial Wave 1 release focussed on the fan favourite bouny hunters from The Empire Strikes Back. Further lines focussed on many characters from the original trilogy. Since then Medicom has given us figures from the new trology. The latest range, pictured above focusses on the various versions of Boba Fett from the Star Wars saga.

The striking detail that is obtained on these figures compares favourably with the more conventional action figures. The Wave 1 release of Boba Fett (pictured above, Left)is a prime example. He comes in detailed armour, removable rocket, movable rocket boosters and helmet scope.

There is also a clear acknowledgemet of the impact that Star Wars collectibles, namely the vintage action figures have had on popular culture. This is show in the smug choice of chase figures to offer. These chase figures have included a Vinyl caped Jawa, Blue Snaggletooth and Yak Face - three of the rarest figures available from the vintage action figure line along with the now legendary 1979 rocket firing Fett, again offered recently (pictured above, Right) in this line as a super rare chase figure.

The level of detail achieved is staggering, with features to please even the pickiest of collectors.

The bonus with these figures is that with in every wave of six figures, there is the chance of finding one of three chase figures. These rarer figures include Indiana Jones as a chase version of Han Solo and a rocket firing Boba Fett from the latest wave, Kubricks vary in price, with common ones around (£10) $15. The Chase figures can be found up to (£95) $140
